- Building on Solid Ground: The Critical Role of Project Controls
A project control specialist is essential to project success and must be in place at least a year before execution. Without this role in place early, projects commonly suffer from baseline creep where budgets expand uncontrollably, inaccurate cost forecasting that leads to budget overruns and funding gaps, poor resource allocation resulting in bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and a lack of early warning systems to identify risks before they become crises.
- When project controllers join too late, they inherit poorly structured data, inconsistent tracking methodologies, and commitments made without proper financial controls, making it nearly impossible to establish accurate baselines or implement effective change management processes.
- Our early involvement ensures that controls are embedded into the project’s foundation, enabling proactive decision-making rather than reactive crisis management, protecting the project from the budget overruns, schedule delays, and scope misalignments that plague projects lacking disciplined oversight from inception.
- Discussing shutdowns and there schedules as well as utilizing P6 & MS projects.
