SUMMARY:Dinner Meeting - Wireless Devices
DESCRIPTION:Update your calendar\, save the date and plan to join us for our Dinner Meeting. \n\nDinner Meeting\n\nCocktails: 5:00 PM\nDinner: 6:00 PM\nPresentation: 7:00 PM\n\n\nDinner Menu\n\nCreamy Tomato Bisque\nMaple Chicken with Apple & Brie\nRaspberry Hazelnut Tart\n\n\n\n  \n\nPresentation\n\nThe Increasing Emergence of Wireless Devices in the Refining and Petrochemical Industry\n\nReplacing or eliminating cables with wireless technology has many attractive features; however there is still an ongoing debate with respect to the level within the control hierarchy (open loop and closed loop) at which this technology will be implemented.\nOpen Loop Applications deliver data that is less Process Critical and have been accepted using wireless technology.\nClosed Loop Applications are Process Critical and have still not been accepted using wireless technology. (There are closed loop wireless applications running in parallel to the wired loop to measure performance.)The purpose of this presentation is to present the availability of wireless technologies for open loop applications within the process plant environment. The presentation will address both proprietary and standards-based technologies and the selection criteria for choosing the correct technology that meets the needs of plant functionality and cyber security\, with a focus on practical usage in rigorous and varied environmental conditions while maintaining a level of reliability\, integrity\, safety\, maintainability and security (equivalent to a hard-wired system.  When discussing wireless systems and their design and implementation in any industrial application\, there are some very important issues that need to be addressed: \n\nHow the technology can affect the existing legacy systems.\nThe physical layer interface (I/O signals\, Ethernet\, serial\, etc.) and Industrial protocol support (e.g. Modbus) that enable existing applications to be expanded without modification.\nThe cost per loop and support/maintenance requirements of an installed wireless network.\nSpeed\, data volume\, latency\, and a level of redundancy that is compatible with plant operational requirements.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\nScott Keller – SignalFire Telemetry\n\nScott is the founder\, CEO and CTO of SignalFire Telemetry.\nIt was his insight that lead to SignalFire’s unique value proposition for the remote asset monitoring and control market. He brings over 20 years of technical management experience to bear\, including extensive experience in radio development\, sensors and embedded control. Scott recently served as program manager and senior consulting engineer with Venture Technologies Inc.\, an engineering consulting firm where he managed a number of telemetry and other projects. Before working at Venture\, Scott held a variety of engineering positions including Manager of the Systems Engineering group at ADE\, Director of Engineering at IN USA\, Inc.\, and member of the technical staff at GTE Labs. Scott holds a BS in Applied and Engineering Physics (A&EP) from Cornell University.\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nReservations\, Cost & Contact Information\n\n$15.00 for ISA Members\, $25.00 for Non-Members\nAll ISA Members and Guests are requested to reserve in advance\nPlease reserve before Wednesday – November 16th\, 2016.\n\nTo confirm your attendance\, please contact Terri Bell at Intertec.\n– Phone: 519 333 2819\n– Email: terri.bell@intertec-inst.com\n\n\nFor special dietary needs\, please contact the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club three days prior to this meeting.\n\nPhone:  519 336 2201
